Supervisor Training: A bespoke and transformational solution for the construction industry

To teach leadership skills to front line construction industry supervisors and managers.

BCM Construction Ltd. is a leading principal contractor for infrastructure projects in the rail and transportation industries. Recognised as specialists within the UK transport sector, BCM identified that a lack of adequate training for front line construction industry supervisors and managers was negatively affecting performance.

The company decided to work with STC INSISO to create a training programme to deliver the latest supervisory and leadership skills. Both companies had worked together previously and STC INSISO were chosen for their ability to efficiently design, develop and roll-out successful leadership programmes worldwide.

Working together with BCM’s industry experts over a four-month period, STC INSISO created Supervision Transformed, a programme designed not just to teach new skills and tools, but to also provide individuals with the confidence to go out and use them.

Consisting of three, two-day modules of interactive classroom or virtual workshops, Supervision Transformed is designed around STC INSISO’s proven Listen, Do, Discuss, Action approach to inspire delegates to reach their full potential:

• Listen – short trainer led presentations on specific topics
• Do – group and individual delegate activities, using company specific data for context
• Discuss – open discussions on the issues raised from the learning and activities
• Action – development of actions, suggestions and questions for improvement.

In addition to the programme’s development, BCM took part in STC INSISO’s tried and tested Train the Trainer programme, which teaches selected BCM personnel to become internal Supervision Transformed trainers.

BCM are now rolling out Supervision Transformed to all front line managers who represent the company. The programme boasts unique Transformed graduation for those completing all three modules, access to ongoing support, tools and processes, and learning alongside peer and customer businesses to ensure cross-industry learning. Courses are scheduled regularly as are opportunities for bespoke in-house programmes.
